FAQs

How can I qualify for a Costco Travel protection plan?

Travel insurance benefits are available to Costco members who book at least a portion of their trip through Costco Travel.

When should I buy travel insurance?

It's a good idea to purchase a travel insurance plan as soon as you’ve made the first payment on your trip. The earlier you purchase, the sooner you will be eligible for coverage to help protect you and your trip. Additionally, depending on when you purchase your travel insurance policy, you might be eligible for additional benefits.

You may purchase a policy up until 11:59 p.m. the day prior to your scheduled date of departure. Each policy should be enrolled per household.

If you purchase the policy within 21 days of your initial trip payment, then you may be eligible for certain bonus coverages, such as the following:

  • A waiver for pre-existing medical conditions.
  • Financial default of an airline, cruise-line, common carrier, or tour operator.
  • Trip cancellation due to a legal separation or divorce of the insured or their traveling companion.

Please note that other benefit limitations may apply.

Will travel insurance cover my pre-existing medical conditions?

Costco Travel insurances plans can provide coverage for your pre-existing medical conditions, as long as the “Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver” is in effect. In order to be eligible for a “Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver,” you must purchase the plan within 21 days of your initial trip payment. This means if you pay for a trip to Hawaii on Jan. 1, you will have up until Jan. 21 to submit a “Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver.”

Be sure to read the wording in your policy document concerning pre-existing medical condition exclusions, when the waiver can and cannot be used, and the additional stipulations that apply.

Can I cancel my travel insurance policy?

We understand you may change your mind after purchasing a travel insurance policy. If you are not completely satisfied with your policy within the 21 days free look period after purchasing it, and you have not yet departed or filed a claim, then Cover-More will refund your policy cost.
